Win-xp desktop background color problem

Hello Guys,
We're 5 PC users and each have their own desktop and background color. Something happened to 1 user we could NOT change the
background color. We tried Right click on desktop and the small pop-up windows has a very long list of choices BUT we chose
Properties and only one General Tab is available. Inside General Tab is these:

Protocol: File Protocol
T y p e : HTML document
Connection: Not Encrypted
Address URL: File//C:\windows\desktop.html
S i z e : Not available
Created: Not available
Modified: Not available

Inside 'desktop.html' are these:
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<!----
***** This file is automatically generated by Microsoft Windows *****
--------><HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></HEAD>
<BODY
style="BORDER-RIGHT: medium none; BORDER-TOP: medium none; BORDER-LEFT: medium none; BORDER-BOTTOM: medium none"
bottomMargin=0 bgColor=#3a6ea5 leftMargin=0 background="" topMargin=0
rightMargin=0>
<DIV
style="LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 800px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 600px"><IMG
style="LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 100%; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 100%" cache
src="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Eileen/Local%20Settings/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Wallpaper1.bmp">
</DIV><IFRAME id=0
style="BACKGROUND: none transparent scroll repeat 0% 0%; LEFT: 0px; WIDTH: 800px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 1px; HEIGHT: 599px"
name=DeskMovrW marginWidth=0 marginHeight=0
src="file:///C:/WINDOWS/desktop.html" frameBorder=0 scrolling=no
subscribed_url="C:\WINDOWS\desktop.html" resizeable=""> </IFRAME>
<OBJECT id=ActiveDesktopMover
style="LEFT: 0px; VISIBILITY: hidden; WIDTH: 0px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 0px; container: positioned; zIndex: 5"
classid=clsid:72267F6A-A6F9-11D0-BC94-00C04FB67863></OBJECT>
<OBJECT id=ActiveDesktopMoverW
style="Z-INDEX: -1; LEFT: -1px; VISIBILITY: hidden; WIDTH: 802px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 0px; HEIGHT: 601px; container:
positioned"
classid=clsid:72267F6A-A6F9-11D0-BC94-00C04FB67863></OBJECT>&nbsp;
</BODY></HTML>

We tried Control Panel > Display and 5 normal Tabs are available BUT when we chose Desktop Tabs and tried to chose another
color --- it has no effect at all!

The desktop background color is white when active and gray when in-active and the right choice of background color appears briefly
only when closing PC.

Do you think if we delete 'desktop.html' - will it fix the problem? Your advice is most welcome.

This desktop item is most likely set by a trojan/malware. Try this:

Remove the Desktop wallpaper / web item:
--------------------------------------------

Open Control Panel, double-click Display.
Click the Desktop tab, and choose "Customize Desktop".
Select the "Web" tab
Delete all the items except "My current Home page"
Uncheck "My current Home page"
Click OK, and now select (None) as your Desktop background
Click OK and close the dialog.

Follow-up with a thorough malware cleanup. Begin with the stand-alone
scanner from Trend Micro, named "Sysclean" package. Trend Micro's Sysclean
package (free), it's capable of eliminating keyloggers, trojans etc. Full

Thank You Ramesh and that was fast!
What do you mean - Remove the Desktop wallpaper / web item?
I'm sorry I could not find the culprit file 'desktop.html' using manual search in Explorer and also using PC Search.

Yes, I could open it by using Right mouse click on desktop and chose View Source BUT not possible to remove it here.

Will do the rest when ready. Please gives more clarification - Thanks In Advance!
