Hi,

In a bit of trouble here.

I share files over my network, but everytime I try to access the computer I get asked for a username and password
the username is administrator, now when I was trying to access the files from my xbox it was very long to write out.
So I decided to create another account abc - very short to write out.

Well when I restarted the computer I realised that it went to this screen where I got the chance to either log on to abc or administrator. I thought this was annoying as I am not used to this sort of thing. I had a word with my mate and he suggested that I removed the abc account and RENAMED the Administrator account to abc. I did this through computer administrator.

So I did just this and that's where the big problem started.

Once I restarted before I got to Windows the computer starts to hang on starting up windows xp.
I then see something which asks me to log on to windows but I can't access this instead it says "The system could not log you on make sure the username and domain are correct then type in your password again."

And I can see the username Adminstrator and a password that's blocked out
but I can't change this.

So I get to the next screen and get the chance to click on the ABC account to get into Windows.
But this account seems to be the one I initially created.

I am beginning to think I might have deleted the admin account but I really remember deleted the ABC account.

I have just created another account through safe mode and I can access windows but I have losts all my settings namely windows media player, internet explorer which is going to take AGES to get right.

I have looked in the c drive and can still see my old files from my original administrator profile.

I have tried system restore, no luck with that. :(
What could I possibly do to restore it back to the way it was?
Any help appreciated.

btw problem almost solved

just worked out you can't rename a profile you are currently on
nor delete it

so i created another profile and renamed the abc to administrator
for some reason my windows xp don't like the main account to be called anything other than administrator
very bizzare!

it still goes to that log in screen though, I can deal with that

you can disable the log in screen, go into user accounts and change the setting under the way users log on and off

I got it for its great playback features for vid files . Its fab and quicker than WMP . Don't know about the features you mentioned as I tend to play full albums and pick them from me disco folder or I use Foxy Tunes whilst surfing .

MS Net Framework or whatever the hell it's called can cause this problem.

Have you installed any new software lately?

Some programs install this thing without you knowing.

Oddly enough ATI's video drivers control panel needs net framework to work.

All I can think of, sorry if it's no help.

Hi flopps
the most notable thing I can think of is actually changing/messing around with my profile names.

I think I had installed ms framework a long time before I had this problem.
I think I need to somehow set up each pc to work, but not to sure on how to do this.

The error message is a different one from before the part that says:

logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon at this computer

surely this must mean something to someone on here.

what a bitch

just got on to this computer and it was hanging on a screen where i had to click on my username to get into windows
damn this stuff

it means that if im trying to record a progam in the middle of the night it will not record.
how do i get rid of this option?
I can only see two options in the user accounts bit and they are both clicked.

Welcome to the 21st tech rich age . Bring back log fires and the story teller is what I say .

Try getting rid of all your network connections and starting from scratch . This site has some good tutorials in setting up a net work . Can't help with the log on bit .

If you can see the original files still in your computer then try to login in safe mode, take ownership of all the files and then copy them to the location where your abc files are sitting.

You should be able to see and use all the files. the favourites (star) is really a folder and if you copy from where you can see old files to where your fovourites are then you will get the favourites back.

Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user using more than one user name are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resources and try again.

Glad to see you got it sorted.

FWIW it's best to not mess with the administrator account.

It can not be deleted or renamed.

In XP if you have more than one user account you will get a login screen automatically.
