Win Server Issue

Guest

Hello group,

I have 3 PCs connected on a local network.
1 - WinXP1 (Pro)
2 - WinXP2 (Pro)
3 - WinS2003 (Win Server 2003)

I can easily browse WinXp1 shared folders from WinXp2. However I cannot
browse WinXP1 from WinS2003. Whenever I want to map a WINXP1 drive on
WinS2003 I have to use XINZP1's IP address. Going by name does not work.

Any ideas what the issue is?

Thanks
JM

Let's start with some diagnostic data. Provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig
/all" for each computer.

OK, let's see what we know now.
# Both computers are connecting to the gateway / DHCP server, and getting
settings.
# Both computers are on the same subnet.
# Both computers have compatible Node Type ("Unknown", with no WINS
configuration = "Broadcast").
# No excessive protocols indicated.

Two frequent cause of this problem are (please read these articles, and
appropriate linked articles):
Misconfigured, or overlooked, personal firewalls.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html>
Registry setting restrictanonymous.
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/07/restrictanonymous-and-your-server.html>

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" from both computers, and we'll
diagnose the problem further.
