I set up win mail and it was working fine, then it stopped.
I can still send and I can connect to the server, and search for new
e-mails, find
that there aren't any, but there are. It's like the computer is blind. When
I
go to the web mail -page by the explore, I can read my mail and read it but
I can't get
it down to the windows mail.

Scroll down to the Windows Mail section of these instructions, and see if
they help.

What if any antivirus programs are you using? Some of them tend to cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Just shut antivirus program down and tried to download mail still no joy. I
have another pc running XP & outlook express, the setup on Win mail is
identical to that on outlook express which works ok but I need to receive my
email on this laptop.

I found this problem when I recently bought a laptop and used it to access
email as well as from my desktop.

You need to leave messages on server to have them show up on both machines.
Tools>accounts>your email provider>Advance tab - tick "leave messages on
server" box.

Some antivirus programs need to be uninstalled, not just disabled, to
stop them from causing problems. For others, just shutting down the
email scanning is enough. That's why I asked what such programs
you have.

Setups that work under Outlook Express usually also work under
Windows Mail, if you get all the details such as the port numbers
right. However, only Outlook Express will connect to webmail ports.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and need to be uninstalled, not just "shut down".
The latest version of Trend's anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.
