Win 2k - Folders' toolbars

V

Victor

Hello,

I am running win 2k since quite a long time and recently
the menus and toolbars menus have disappeared from all the
folders: it means that when opening Windows Explorer, My
Computer or My Documents, the windows do not have the menu
bar at the top nor any of the toolbars. Have been trying
the reset the folders' options to the Windows Defaults but
it doesn't change anything. Anyboday has any ideia on how
to get the situation back to normal?

Many thansk in advance.

The profile may be corrupt. What happens if you logon as a new user? (create
a new account in 'Users and Passwords').

Hi Dave,

Thks for the answer. As a matter of fact, follwoing your
advice I just created a Guest profile and the menu and
toolbars appeared! So it does look like the profile might
be corrupted. The only problem is that I am working in a
single PC and the profile I have been always using is the
default Administrator!!!! So is it repairable???, I have
all the PC (hardware and software) hooked on htis
Admnistrator profile!!!

Thanks!

Victor

This will reset all the parameters that are now linked
with the current Administrator profile? Meaning the new
Administrator profile will not have the same environment
that was defined for the former Administrator profile?

Thks!

Not sure what you're meaning by "same environment" but you'll want to save
off any items from the profile you want such as PST file for outlook or the
store folder/ address book for outlook express and any other items, files,
etc.

What I mean is that of the parameters (Outlook express,
desktop, taskbar, some programs will not be attached to
the new Administrator account... I tried already to create
a new user with full administrative priviledges and loggin
in with this new user, the all configuration of the PC
changes to the original... so I suspect that recreating
the built-in Administrator will result in the same... old
the parameters of the old Build-in Administrator Account
will disappear..., Isn't it?

Yes to default hence the reason/suggestion to backup before hand. Then
restore afterwards. Use your mail software's import function. see Tom Koch's
web site for some excellent help on backup/restoring your Outlook Express
stuff.
