Win 2K Folder Permissioning

Marcus

Hi. I have an interesting problem that I'm hoping someone
can help with.

I have a shared folder on a Win2K server (\\server1
\shared), to which users (NT4 clients) map a J: drive.
This shared folder has a number of subfolders. Users in
the group GROUP1 have permissions to SUBFOLDER1, users in
GROUP2 permissions to SUBFOLDER2 etc. etc.

However, in Windows Explorer, ALL users can see ALL
subfolders listed, although they can't explore all of
them due to lack of permissions. It's because they all
have the 'List Folder Contents' permission to the root
(SHARED) directory.

My question is: how can I make sure that each user can
ONLY see the directories he has specific access to? They
have to map the J: drive at the SHARED level.

Any help much appreciated.

Marcus.

The only way to do this is to map them directly to the subfolder to which
they should have access. Unlike Novell, Windows does not provide views
based on permissions.
