You might just want to take the computer to a shop or have someone come to
your home or business. How are you going to judge that the person you invite
into your computer actually knows what they're doing at that they aren't
going to cause you more problems than you have now? Either accidentally or
not?

If you're dealing with a local business, at least you know that they're in
the business of fixing computers.

And from the other end, I repair computers for a living, but I've never had
an interest in doing remote repairs. For one thing, payment is an issue. For
another, it's so much easier to repair a computer when I'm sitting in front
of it. I can hear the sounds it makes, judge the response time, etc. And
remote assistance is going to be fairly slow unless both parties have
high-speed connections. A repair that could be done in less than an hour if
I was in front of the computer could take hours and hours remotely. It the
computer being fixed needed to be rebooted, the remote connection would need
to be made each time. And if the "fixer" needed to look at the bios or do
anything outside of Windows, it wouldn't be possible.

Of course, it's up to you, but before you give a stranger control of your
computer, be a little bit skeptical.
