i have an IBM thinkpad T22 with Windows 2000 professional installed. the
problem is that it is password protected, and the user has forgotten the
password. I have unplugged the battery and tried to clear the BIOS and such.

Question: if i buy a full version of windows xp will i be able to boot the
pc from the cd and reinstall the operating system, without the password??

i don't care about any data on the hard drive btw. just a clean start is
fine. will it work??

If the Password your talking about is a BIOS password an install of a new OS
is not going to help.
If the Password is the one you need to start 2000 then yes a complete new
OS install will let you finally use the computer.

You'll have to contact IBM Support and order
a BIOS reset diskette.
