Will they work?

Old Enough

I'm a relative newby at the computer game.
Currently I run Windows XP (SP2) on a P III machine.
I believe it to be a 32 bit program.

If I were to buy a new computer, it would amost certainly have Windows
Vista on it. Is it 64 bit?

Question: Would my current programs (many of which are free, but
several of which I paid for) be usable with Windows Vista?

Thanks!

Use the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor. Not a complete solution, but should
give you some idea of any potential problems.

So really, to be honest - it's a crapshoot, right? One can never be sure
whether a Windoze program will run on this toy operating system until
actually spending the money and trying it out. Pathetic! Windows 7 will be
even more costly for the consumer, as NO older software will run on it.
Time to start saving for the future of Windoze. It'll be costly.

Cheers.

Not necessarily but it very likely is.

Vista comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. It could be either,
but most pre-installed Vista computers come with the 32-bit version.

That depends entirely on what programs they are. Some older programs
will work under Vista, others won't.

That said, the great majority of programs that run under XP will also
run under Vista.

To check, download and the free Microsoft Windows Vista Upgrade
Advisor at

Thanks to those who replied. I did in fact run the Upgrade Advisor.
It only fingered two, insignificant programs as being incompatible.
From that I assume all the others are OK.

THanks for your help!
