Recently...my company decided they wanted to catch a time bandit by
requiring everybody to punch in & out...even salaried employees such as
myself. Trouble is...after several years on the job...NONE of our employees
can ever remember to do so (myself included...big time.) So I set myself a
reminder 'Task' in Outlook (2003); & it gongs at me now 5 minutes before I
have to punch in the morning; & in & out for lunch. I'm happy

But I'm wondering...I don't really want Outlook to run in the background all
day long...& was hoping the Task would still gong at me if I closed the
program.

Can this be accomplished?

Thanks,

No. Outlook is like most other programs. It must be running to work. Most
people who want to use Outlook leave it running. --

Do non-existent people dig ditches, deliver your postal mail, or serve
you at a restaurant? Well, then why would you expect a non-existing
process to do any work for you?

You could use something like Yahoo Widgets that have calendars which
include scheduled alerts; however, considering the size of every
widget you install plus the controller program, you would be better
off memory consumption wize to leave Outlook running in the background
(but minimized to the system tray to eliminate the memory consumption
for a GUI window that you aren't viewing at the time). There are
plenty of reminder utilities many of which consume a lot less memory.

By the way, are you mining for spam by exposing your true e-mail
address in Usenet where spambots roam to harvest email addresses?
