I have been using NAV for ages.
Recently I installed KAV and NAV wouldn't function. So, I uninstalled
NAV and then KAV couldn't access Jscript....WMP and Search wouldn't
work,etc.
Apparently the NAV uninstall left registry entries that caused the
screw up.
I was impressed that KAV had caught a trojan that NAV new nothing
about. Also, it would prompt for the password of pw files before
scanning...does this mean NAV checks password files anyway or ignores
them ?
Anyway, is there any AV program that can be used as a back-up for
checking behind NAV and co-exist peacefully ?
NAV would be the only one set up to run in the background, BTW.
System is XP home Ver.
TIA

buzz Light Beer,

It is not a good idea to have two AV programs running interactively. They
can see the activity of one another as invasive. What you may want to try is
running one for on-demand and use the other one as a backup when you disable
the on-demand program.

Personal opinion: I would replace Norton, it is a well known resource hog.
The fact that they have a great marketing campaign does not translate to a
great AV program. Do a Google search for Antivirus software and review the
results for some alternative solutions.

Thanx for taking the time to reply, Sir_George.

I have Norton System Works 2003 w/ NAV 2003. I really like KAV
( Kaspersky 5 personal ). I wanted to replace NAV with Kaspersky, but
when I uninstalled NAV , Kaspersky couldn't use scripting ( worked
fine until NAV was un-installed ) and ,then, while Kaspersky was
installed WMP and Windows Search would crash.
Apparently the NAV uninstall left a lot of registry values...i.e., a
Common Files\Shared pointer for JScript.dll.
I hate messing w/ changing my registry very much and Norton must have
about a bazillion entries so I reluctantly uninstalled Kaspersky and
re-installed NAV :( Now, at least every thing is back up and running.
Any one who knows a work around on this will be greatly appreciated.

A Symantec site has this to offer:

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest starting from scratch before
reinstalling KAV.
