Wildcards in junk filters?

Is there any way that I can put wildcards in junk email filters?

For example, I get email from my friend dan and he uses the address
danthegreat for many different domains, so I would get email from
(e-mail address removed) or (e-mail address removed).

When I try to add danthegreat as a bar word to the safe senders list,
it yells at me that it won't work. Then I add danthegreat@ and it
doesn't work either.

Is Outlook in all its megabytes really less useful than mh and
procmail?

What you want is possible using rules. If the senders' address contains
danthegreat is the condition you need to use. No wild cards required.
