If you get that error while using one specific application... then the problem is with the software itself... However if that error does not occur with only one specific app. then you may have a hardware problem first thing to do is run a memory diagnostic such as memtest

Philo & Peter, The problem resolved itself. The hard drive failed completely a few minutes after I posted that.
