Wierd cricket sounds coming from speakers

Every 5 minutes or so, When I am on the net or playing
games, or when the computer is idle, I get a weird set of
sounds that I can only describe as "cricket sounds".
These sounds play for a second or so and repeat every 5
minutes. The sounds go away when I disable the speakers
or turn the volume down. I also don't seem to get the
sounds when running MS Word ro Excel.

I've run virus checks and nothing shows up. Any
suggestions for getting rid of this annoying sound?

Thanks,
Roger

I think Weather Bug is "spyware." You may want to uninstall it, or check if
you've installed some software you didn't mean to. These viruses -as I think
of them- install themselves with other apps.

If you're using Weather Bug, the cricket sound is an alert for possible
severe weather. The alert can be disabled in the WB options.

this is a sound when someone logs on or off their
computer, when they are on your buddy list in AOL and
also when someone IM you. You can turn off the sound for
both in IM settings
