Widget Gallery

Frank, I downloaded the Sudoku widget from the website. It's a 'zip' file,
which I was able to open with Iceows.

What I couldn't figure out was how to install the program, since there
doesn't seem to be an 'exe' file in the archive.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hal

I did the same thing!
They need a java script to run called Konfabulator

I'm not sure it's worth the trouble!

It's a nice set of apps, addons, etc. You just need to click on the
DOWNLOADS link at the top of the page & it'll take you to the main prog
dl. Konfabulator. It's way cool - why not give it a try.
Or click here:
http://www.konfabulator.com/download

Just a very satisfied user.

How is it with resources and stability.
I would not want something thats supposed to run
all the time freezing and getting in the way.
I've had some stickies etc do that.

In my experience, programs that freeze do so because of some conflict with
some other program that's running. Unless this conflict is with some
standard part of Windows, the experience will be different for everyone.
I've even found in the past that sometimes the order in which programs start
has made a difference. In other words, I'm afraid that it might be a
"buyer-beware"-type situation, and not one in which other people's
experience is a valid guide.

If you dont try you wouldnt know. And as the world is dangerous I'd say,
try it.

Seriously, I tried it, I even didn't understand the term 'widget' and
find it nice. If you "need" you can have a new NASA picture downloaded
every 15 minutes. Or get the latest weather radar pictures. Or have
instant access to search forms for all Amazon web sites. and so on.

You might also live without it. But it looks nice - some more hip than
me might say it's cool.

If you have to take care of resources - there is one java konfabulator
applet for each widget running. I.e. it takes about 28 kb for all 4
applets I am running now

My apologies to Hal and others who had problems with Widgets. When posting
I did not realise that another program (Konfabulator) was needed to run the
Widgets, as others have pointed out. I've downloaded several of the Widgets
but not yet had time to try them. Opinions of others seem to be mixed --
I'll defer judgement until I've tried them, but would like to know the
opinion of anyone else who has tried them. To download Konfabulator go to HP

Frank, and others...

Thanks for the info on Konfabulator. I installed it and am starting to
pick and choose several widgets to play around with.

I have been using the Konfabulator with several widgets I have found useful
for a few months with no problems. IIRC I think I paid for it, it wasn't
freeware when I first started using it.

I use it, I love it. Resources are not much a problem (At least on my
system). I have 2 widgets running on the desktop, an analog WIFI meter and a
really cool weather widget that shows the temp and a rain or snow or
whatever icon (Its more than an icon, its an image), sun, moon and clouds.
In "Konspose" mode I have a cartoon bar running along the top with 11
cartoons updated daily (Options for many many popular Newspaper Cartoons), a
Harry Potter countdown widget, and a few more "cool" widgets. I have the
image gallery widget (Which scans through all the images on your computer
and runs through them like a 2" x 2" screen saver). I have some other
widgets I turn on and off when I want to look at them. Konfabulator is one
great program and well worth the download and little time it takes to set
up. There are many very very useful widgets.
