Why did Microsoft get rid of the fax in Vista Premium? It used to be in XP,
and I used it a lot. Now I have something to fax, but no fax!

Probably for the same reason they eliminated the scan ocx's that were
available prior to XP, another revenue stream. I have Home Premium on this
new machine and purchased SnappyFax which does much more than the included
fax in XP. 30 bucks I think but better than laying out much more for
Business or Ultimate.

I think it's because Vista Home Premium is the replacement for XP Home.
Vista Ultimate is the replacement for XP Pro, which had Fax & Scan.

No, because I have a desktop with XP Home and it has fax. (unfortunately
it's NOT near a phone plug)

Nope, XP Pro has fax but the Scan was dropped out. I have 5 XP Pro machines
and my program used the scan ocx's to scan documents. These were dropped
out in XP and you have to purchase @ around 150.00 per machine.

XP Home and W98 had Fax - it was certainly a "Home" function - now its only
in the business versions - yeah, I'm sure General Motors and Ford etc will
throw out all their fax hardware and software.

To the OP, I've never seen any satisfactory explanation for this stupid
omission. And I've been using MS OS since DOS 3.n

Yep, and what this approach does is send users to a 3rd party solution. I
only have this one machine with Vista Premium, the other 5 are XP Pro
Machines. There is no reason to spend the $$$ and possible headaches
upgrading to Business or Ultimate. SnappyFax is excellent and does much
more than the built in fax ever did.

And I like Vista, I have not had any of the problems others have experienced
so I feel fortunate.

I'll ask again.... I have Motorola phone tools for my Razr phone...phonebook
and stuff. Do you think that program will conflict with BVRP?

I'm referring to control panel/scanners & cameras/add device.

I hear your frustration just.some.guy. As much as I like Vista, MS
decision to go with a tiered pricing/product approach was the worst
decision they've ever made, at least from a users standpoint.
I agree with you, although it might not be the worst decision MS has made,
it certainly rates in the top 5. :-) Goes to prove that MS doesn't give a
shit about it's users (I mean customers).

Cheers.

I must say the developers at Microsoft do have a sense of humour.

Looks like you shot one of Frankie Boy's "beliefs" out of the water. He's
not that bright, is he? But we already had that figured out.

Cheers.
