Why won't Word 2000 allow me to send a document as an attachment?

I cannot send a file as an attachment. Outlook Express 6 is installed on my
computer and I am using Word 2000. I have checked off the Mail as attachment
button in the general tab of the options command and still nothing. Even the
button that I added to my toolbar is inactive. Please help.
 
Outlook Express should be set as your default email application
in Start | Control Panel | Internet Options | Programs.

Your WIN.INI file should have the following [Mail] key values:

[Mail]
MAPI=1
CMC=1
CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll
CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
MAPIX=1
MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging=1
