Why won't my unhide command work?

I am currently taking an Excel class, and we are learning about hiding and
unhiding columns and rows. I was successful in hiding each, but when I tried
to unhide them it didn't work. I was sure to select both columns and/or rows
on either side of the hidden element before choosing to unhide, but no luck,
both the column and the row stayed hidden. Any advice?

Lets say you are trying to "unhide" rows. Select the row before and the row
after at the same time, right click with the curser over the selected rows
and select unhide from the drop down menu. Sounds like you already tried
this but thought I would walk you throuhg it again. Now do the same thing
but this time from the drop down select "Row Height" and enter something
like "12.75" (without the quotes of course) and see if they don't came back.

Did you select them with a control-click, which selects just those
particular columns, or with a shift-click, which selects them and all
columns in between?

A: Maybe because some people are too annoyed by top posting.
Q: Why do I not get an answer to my question(s)?
A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top posting such a bad thing?

Have you hidden the first few columns? I remember pulling my hair out
on this when I was starting out. Click the column header and drag/
highlight across to the left (to the little box that sits before the
place where column A should be.) Now try Unhiding again and it should
work. Similarly this works for unhiding rows - click the row header
and drag upwards, and then that should work too.

Hope this helps,

And a biggie, make sure your spreadsheet is not filtered. In Excel 2010, for example, go to Data ---> Filter ---> Clear. Several years late, but better late than never.

And another several years on to say thanks for the tip about filters, the computer was nearly on its way out the window.....
