why will my function not work? it is just auto sum.

All I am trying to do is use auto sum. Why does it just show the actual
function and not the answer? Thanks.
 
The cell must be currently formatted as text, select Format -> Cells and
choose General. Then, click on your cell and hit F2 and hit enter to refresh
the formula
 
Your cell was probably formatted as text before you entered the formula.
Format the cell as General, then go into the formula bar and confirm the
formula again.
