"runtime Error 216"

The year is 2005 and I still have to read these unuseful, cryptic, stupid
error messages.

"Runtime Error 216"

Ok, What does it mean? How can I solve it? What' s the problem?

Oh my God

Just go to Microsoft's main web page and type in the error message in the
search box, as I did "for" you. The next time you will now know where to
look.

Those Cryptic messages aren't designed for End Users to comprehend.
They are traps for coding errors or conditions that only the developers
of the code can understand. The numerical value helps to describe the
parameters of the error. Usually, the number can be cross-checked to
find the cause or help diagnose the error. Do a Google for the message
and you'll likely find a few matches.

Here's the top match, a Microsoft Knowledge Base article on error 216:

Lots of times the APPLIES TO applies to later versions as well.

For example, this applies to XP, but XP isn't listed.
Items in "Open" and "Save As" Dialog Boxes Sorted Incorrectly
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q229070

And a lot of the time what is listed is what it applies to.

MS needs to keep more on top of updating the KB articles.
