Its called virtual disk service in services
You mean this? C:\WINDOWS\System32\vds.exe ?
Not part of Windows XP 32-bit version (couldn't tell if "(using x64)??"
meant you don't know what you have). I then went to Microsoft's huge
support knowledgebase at
http://support.microsoft.com, selected the
product in an advanced search (Windows XP Professional x64 Edition),
searched on "virtual disk service", and got:
http://support.microsoft.com/search...pid=8599&catalog=LCID=1033&1033comm=1&res=20#
The 64-bit version of Windows XP Professional takes its codebase from
Windows Server 2003. It is not a beefed up version of Windows XP Pro
32-bit. That means there are services indicative of the server OS
origin for Windows XP Pro x64. Since this was something that got
migrated from Windows Server 2003 to create Windows XP Pro x64, I did
another advanced search but selected Windows Server 2003 as the product.
I got:
http://support.microsoft.com/search...spid=3198&catalog=LCID=1033&1033comm=1&res=20
When you use the "Start -> Help and Support" menu, and search on
"virtual disk service", nothing comes up in its own help? Strange. If
not there, you could Google for info on it, as in:
http://www.google.com/search?q=+"windows+server+2003"+%2B"virtual+disk+service"
