Why is there "unkown error" when recieving from my hotmail?

I set up my hotmail account as instructed in the help file, but whenever I
try to recieve my emails, it says that there was an unkown error.

Could it be conflicting with MSN, which also checks my email?
 
I use Outlook 2003 with my free Hotmail, Windows Live Mail account,
and have been for the past several years.

There are many reasons that you can get an unknown error. Do you get
an error code with it? If so, try searching for that error code on
the Microsoft Knowledge base. Also, verify that you have HTTP mail
configured properly.

One thing that got me quite a few times was that I had forgotten to
add the @hotmail.com portion of my account name to the settings.

As for not being able to use Outlook to check your Hotmail acct, I
would double check on this. Like I said, mine's been working fine for
several months, even on a brand new account that was setup in the last
few weeks.
