Why is the reply text of messages missing when people reply to my.

When some people reply to the messages I send to them, the text of their
reply is missing (ie: I get a reply from their address and all that is in it
is the original message I sent them). This does not happen with all messages,
but it happens with a significant number of them

They've set their options not to include the original message on replies
and forwards.....

Hi, Gordon;
But aliciasw said she gets her original message back. She said she does not
get the text of their replies. That option would give her their replies but
not her original message, the reverse of what she says is happening, wouldn't
it?
Regards,
Ian.

This can be caused by scanning incoming mail with an antivirus program. If
you have one, disable that option.

Disable antivirus ONLY if you are not concerned about getting infected with
a virus. That is NOT a fix. A fix has to come from M$.

And until such a fix IS available, I just found this a few thread down.

I haven't tried it as I haven't experienced this problem myself, but maybe
it'll work for now. Try moving the messages in question out of the inbox
and then read them.

=========================
When one or two people I correspond with reply to my messages, I see only my
original message when I open their reply. If I either delete the message or
move it to another folder in my mailbox, their message becomes visible in
the
deleted or other folder and remains visible when I move the message back to
my inbox. I have Windows XP and use Outlook, not Outlook Express, for
e-mail. What is going on here???

Sorry it didn't work for ya. It sounded like a similar problem and a
possible temporary work around.

Hope you find an answer good luck.

Alas, this did not help, but it was worth a try, thank you.

Don I said:

Nonsense. Nearly every antivirus program made comes with an "on-access" or
"real-time" scanner that runs in the background as a Windows service (often
denoted by some icon in the System tray notification area). If an infected
message arrives and the user attempts to open it or save it to disk, the
on-access scanner will detect the infection and prevent it. Scanning of
email is a waste of time.

No, a fix has to come from the vendor of the antivirus programs that claim
they're compatible with Outlook. All too often they lie.

OK. I digress. Although I still wouldn't be TOTALLY comfortable with
disabling virus protection on email--that's not as bad as I thought you were
talking about. WHen you said "This can be caused by scanning incoming mail
with an antivirus program. If you have one, disable that option", I took
that as totally disabling AV.

As far as which vendor needs to provide a fix, that's disputable. For all
we know the AV vendor wrote their code based on SPECS provided by M$. It's
not like it's uncommon for the M$ docs to be wrong. It could just as easily
be that the AV software was improperly coded.
