Why is report footer on new page?

I have several fairly simple reports and no matter what I do, the report
footer always appears at the top of a new (last) page, even though there is
plenty of space left on the pages containing detail.
I want it to appear there, just underneath the last of the detail, but it
insists on being on its own at the top of an additional new page.
All the properties are at their defaults, I haven't fiddled with Force New
Page or anything like that.
Thanks

Do you have a footer that is set to Force A New "After Section"?

If you right click on any of the sections you have on the report and click

Someone on this newsgroup (sorry, can't remember who) gave this method:
Check that both your Detail & Footer Sections and their controls have Can
Shrink set to Yes
Watch out for Lines which may be holding a section open.

In your sorting Grouping box, above your other groupings, type
=1

Choose to have a footer for this artifical group and put your report footer
into that

Those shy footers can be caused by columns in reports or the way Keep
Together is used in the Sorting Grouping box, or tall sections or hidden
page breaks (or just darn cussedness!)
