Why is query builder grayed out in outlook 2007 instant search?

I cannot type anything in the form (From, Body, Subject, To) associated with
Query Builder for Instant Search. The blanks are gray and unavailable and the
labels are also gray. And the corresponding downward triangles are inactive.

Any idea what I should do?
