Why is Normal.dot being changed?

I occasionally get error messages reading "Changes have been made that affect
the global template, Normal.dot. Do you want to save those changes?"

But I have not made any changes myself. How can I identify specifically
what changes have been made, and who/what has made them and why?

The only add-in I've got installed is the Adobe PDFMaker, although I've
never used it.
