Why is my Solitaire so slow?

I just bought a new computer. P4 3.2 with no video card.

When I win a game of solitaire, the cards come off reallly
slowly, much more slowly than with my old machine, which
had a 800 meg chip and a video card and Windows 98.

The computer salesman tells me that the solitaire responds
slowly because of the way Windows XP Pro handles solitaire,
and that I'd see no difference if I installed a video card.

Is he right? His info has been such that I don't trust the
guy.

let me get this straight... You bought a 3.2 GHz computer to play solitaire?

Just kidding...

solitaire should work as well as win98, that person is telling you a lie.

Solitaire is going to run the same wither your using on board video
or a video card. Just copy sol.exe from your old machine and
you'll have a speedy game of solitaire again.
I suspect that it's slow because delays were added to the program
to get the desired effect. Otherwise it goes by so fast you hardly see it.

Onboard video is always going to be a bit slower, but it shouldn't be
terrible, and it shouldn't be that bad running solitaire. It's possible that
not enough memory is allocated to the video. Or you may not have enough
memory in the computer, at which point allocating more memory to video is a
bad idea. Or it could be that your computer has a lot of stuff running so
that it;s just slow overall. It could be spyware or it could be extra junk
that the manufacturer added on.

A computer salesman is just a salesman, not necessarily someone who knows
anything about computers except how to sell a lot of them. Getting any sort
of technical advice from him is probably a bad idea.
