Why is my original received email deleted when i send a reply?

When I reply to a received email, the original email in my inbox is deleted?
I do get a reply email copy in my sent items box, but original email received
is gone? Why and how do I change this?
 
Tools>options>email options>choose the appropriate settings. For instance,
uncheck "close original.." check "Save copies of messages...." There are more
settings in Advanced Email options, too.
