everytime i click on excel.exe it would say "the feature you are trying to
use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert
Microsoft Office XP Prof with frontpage", this only happened today

Some more information would be helpful. Such as, do you have the required CD
and what happens when you try to use it?

Is there any reference to the specific feature or is it just a rather
non-commital (and thus equally non-useful) comment?

There are some things you can try if just inserting the requested CD doesn't
work - a repair installation of Office would be one of them. If that has to
be done and it works, be sure and get all required updates again.

It is possible that either your registry or some information needed by the
MSI installer has become corrupt. Microsoft has a tool that can be used to
(try to) repair those:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301

I've seen this tool repair similar problems, such as is mentioned in this
FAQ at another site: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/13555
