why is my computer still slow?

a couple of months ago i downloaded a programme, since then my computer has
been running very slow even though i have broadband. i have deleated the
programme from my computer but it still hasn't gone back to how it was. it
can take up to a god 5 minutes for my computer to load when i turn it on.
what shall i do?

Oh the bliss of System Restore.

Now, all will be set to rights, if you have a valid restore point prior to
the time when the offending application was installed, run System Restore to
set it back to that time.

All personal files [documents, spreadshhets emails etc] that were created
after this time, will not be affected.
