Why is Autoarchive not working in Outlook 2003?

Hope someone can help.

I've created a Spam folder and all spam is automatically routed to this
folder via rules whenever I check mail. That works fine.

I right click on this folder and set the archive properties to "Clean out
items older than 1 day"...and to "Permanently delete old items". I've also
set Autoarchive to run every 1 day.

What I want is for all the junk mail in this folder which is older than 1
day to be removed automatically whenever Autoarchive runs, which is daily.
But it doesn't work. Is something wrong with my settings or what?

Would appreciate any assistance.

I could be wrong but I believe the mail must be "marked as read" so you may
need to highlight all the mail in the spam folder and mark it as read. If
that fails you can always open your archive.pst in your folder list and drag
the mail to it manually. I wish I could be more help. I do not have
Outlook 2003 so I don't know what changes have been made to the program.
Hopefully someone else will help you better then I.

Hello Bert...thanks for your comments. Well...when the junk gets moved to
the Spam folder, they're already automatically marked as read. So that's not
it. Oh well...have to wait and see if anyone else replies. Thanks anyway!
