Why I'll never buy from ATI Again.

Drew Carter

As posted recently Ati's web page states:
Drive an HDTV-ready Television with the VGA-YprPb adaptor. Available rom
ATI - enable a non-interlaced high resolution display in the Family Room!

The net is full of people who have massive overscan problems with Ati AIW
cards and their HDTV adaptor.

I paid $49.95 to ATI Canada for their useless piece of silicon.. their
response to my problems is:

Unfortunately, ATI Technical Support is unable to provide you with a
monetary refund. We would
recommend contacting the place of purchase to see if there may be a return
option available with
them.

Since Ati refuses to stand behind their product I have no recourse but the
Better Business Bureau.

Those consumers contemplating ATI purchases should take this attitude under
consideration before any purchases. They could care less once they have
their money.

The net is full of clueless ****wits like you too.

No you didn't. You paid a shop. You've paid **** all to ATI as they
don't supply to end users directly.

Who will then tell you what a dick you are and tell you exactly the
same as ATI did.

Actually, they do. You can order one directly from them if you like.
He could take it to small claims court and probably win if the product
doesn't work as advertised. But the BBB is ususally a waste of time
and effort.

Uh, Drew, if you want a refund, you have to contact _customer_ support, not
_technical_ support. This is the way it is with almost every company I
have ever encountered.

Only if it didnt work for all users could he win. Its not ATI's fault that his
elcheapo sub $1000 HDTV is crappy.

What you buy online comes directly from ATI, not some shop.

And I have to agree with the guy this time. I was semi happy for 6-years with
an AIW 128. Just got the AIW 9800. I've written them almost constantly for the
past month both online and at (e-mail address removed) Support has dried up. They used
to reply to emails. I even had a support call with the AIW 128. very good
support.

So far all emails from me it seems may have been routed to ATI's spam bucket.
They haven't even acknowledged receipt of the emails either using the form
online or direct email.

This will most likely be my last ATI's. but only because I don't expect this
9800 to fall apart any time in the near future.

I would have to seriously consider what sort of support they're now offering.
I can get ignored by buying from UPS or fedex anytime.
I bought directly from ATI because of their prior support and reliability.

this 9800 also has the same closed captioning problem the 128 had. It captures
randomly what it wants to capture.

I can only assume those that have no problems with capturing closed captioning
either have different expectations, or a different help file on how to setup
the closed captioning cause the 128 was so unreliable, you couldn't even do it
by hand while the show was on. And this 9800 is following right along behind
the failures of the AIW 128.

Store warrantys are usually only good for 30 days at the most, some
only 7. After that your recourse is with the manufacturer.

Guess the original poster shouldn't have waited so long to thing about
getting his money back, huh???

Did you buy the adapter directly from the ATi online store, or through a
retailer?

HDTVs, being digital, should not really be fed from an analog
component-video source. All Samsung LCD TVs have a DVI interface. Your TV
doesn't have it?

Hmmmm. I've had good luck with the BBB. I'm 4 out of 4 for getting
AHEAD in the end once the BBB was my last resort.
