why has my quicktime stopped working?

please could you help me?
when i want to watch trailers on the apple website the little broken film
strip appears and i cant watch any trailers on movie sites!
does anyone know whats wrong?

Tried just installing Quicktime?

i tried installing quicktime again but to no avail. when i try to install
quicktime with iTunes it starts to install be doesnt seem to finish. also
when i click to watch a movie trailer an error message comes up saying
"couldn't open the file trailer.mov because a bad public atom was found in
the movie" any suggestions?

i tried uninstalling and reinstalling the quicktime standalone player and it
got to the end and it said "the wizard was interrupted before QuickTime could
be completely installed" and "the system has not been modified..." now i
didn't press cancel or anything and i have already tried system restore.
please help, this is really puzzling and becoming somewhat annoying
