Why field will not auto update

I have just been upgraded from W2000 to W2003.

I have a Letter template in Word that uses AutoText fields to pull in the
data as listed in the User Information fields (Tools menu, Options, User
Information fields). This saves time for my colleagues using this template
so they do not have to type in repetative text it autopopulates their name
and address on opening.

This worked fine in W2000. Now in W2003 it has stopped working. If I right
click on the field and select Update field it will show the correct
information OR Select All and F9 inputs correct data.

This cannot be right that I have to force it to update rather than the
automatic update it used to do on opening. Are there new settings or
behaviours in W2003 I need to tweak to get those fields to autoupdate to show
the correct users information? Any ideas would be gratefully received!!!

I am using W2003 but found this option on General tab in my version. It was
already ticked. Any other thoughts gratefully received.

It may simply be: Tools> Options - Edit, make sure there is a check in the
box for Update Automatic Links at Open.
