why Excel freezes when you change axis scale?

I have recently found a major issue with excel 2007 charts. When you are
dealing with large data, if you try to make any changes to format axis scale
options, for example change the scale limits from auto to set a manual
minimum or use logarithmic scale, the excel file freezes and stop responding.
I had serious problems dealing with my excel file in excel 2007 and tried
everything, so finally I found the source of problem. Now, I can not work
with charts in the way I need, for example to set the minimum value of Y axis
scale to zero. I don't know why if you leave every option automatic it works
ok but if you make any changes to automatic settings it will stop working. I
have tried excel 2007 on different pc and even workstations and found the
same problem. Furthermore excel 2003 does not have such problem and work
faster with charts. Does anybody knows any solution to this issue?
