Why doesn't wrap text function work?

After about 1125 characters in a cell, the wrap text function stops working.
Why? Is it repairable?
Is it just me or everyone?
Excel 2003

1024 characters is the limit. You may enter some manual linebreaks with
aLT+ENTER in this cell
 
And it's not just you, it's everybody.

Depending on what you need this for, you may want to consider using a table in
MSWord.

The additional benefits of getting that full fledged word processor maybe great
enough to convert your data to Word.
