Why doesn't AutoCHK run after reset in XP?

K

Hi dears,
I remember strongly, since Windows 98 to Windows 2000, if you press
reset button of the chassis when you are desktop or if electricity cuts
off when working on Windows, after these events Windows XP doesn't run
AutoCHK to check drive like Scandisk.

XP loads itself normally and it doesn't run CHKDSK or AutoCHK after
next boot up.

Why? I'm sure previous versions of Windows scans system in next boot up
IF YOU DIDN'T SHUT DOWN your system by START -> SHUT DOWN option.

Thanks in advance.

Auto ckeck can be started manually by right clicking c: go to
properties/tools/error ckecking in the dialog box there put a tick in both
boxes it will then inform you that on your next restart it will perform the
check as it used to in previous versions of windows

Open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
Type or paste the following line:

chkntfs /d

Hit the Enter key.

Chkntfs displays or modifies the checking of disk at boot time.

The /d switch restores the machine to the default behavior; all drives are
checked at boot time and chkdsk is run on those that are dirty.

Type in a command prompt for help: chkntfs /?

Short answer is that XP will only do so if actually needed. Also you
could disable the "autocheck" in Win98 if desired.
