Why does Xp and 2000 Management Differ

I have tried to find any help on this topic read many white papers and others on GPO'
Why is the folder redirection available on the server when looking at the GPO but when i logon to my laptop and look at the GPO it isnt there. I also isnt being applied to the WKS either. Tried to map it at the command prompt and it works getting there but not when redirecting the folder.
