Why does Vista NOT keep settings?

Hi,

I hook up a second monitor to my laptop running Vista Business. The second
monitor sits to the left of my laptop so I go to Display settings and move
the second monitor to the left.

Everything works fine till I lock my computer -- not even log off. When I
log in again, the second monitor is moved to the right.

Why does Vista not keep settings?

Hi Sam

Did you manage to fix this problem? Its exactly the same problem I'm having
too and nothing I've tried has solved it.

Yes, I solved the problem by moving the monitor to the other side!!! Other
than that I couldn't find a software solution. Looks like Windows REALLY
likes to keep the main monitor on the left.

Thanks for replying Sam.

Looks like I'll just have to rearrange my desk again - how annoying though!!

Hi Sam

If you're still interested in fixing this problem, we've managed to do it:

Right click on the desktop.

Choose "Graphics Options".

Choose "Output To".

Choose "Extended Desktop".

Choose "Monitor+Notebook".

Problem solved! My external monitor now stays set as the main monitor and
when Vista does its flickery-pokery on coming out screensaver mode things
stay exactly how I like them.

Hi,

I have the same problem with a Toshiba G30 with NVIDIA GeForce7600, and
Iiyama B2403 LCD as an extended desktop.

Right clicking on the desktop does not give me a 'Graphics Options', but a
shortcut to the NVIDIA control panel which I guess is the same thing. I have
messed around for hours in the three places :

NVIDIA Control Panel
Toshiba Display Settings
Windows Display Settings

Not completely sure how changes in one dialogue affect the others, but did
manage to get the system set up and behaving correctly with my extended
desktop on the left of the laptop (main monitor)

Was really pleased until my daughter came along and logged herself in, and
it was back to square one ! It screwed things up for everyone.

Have decided to rearrange my office again with the extended desktop on the
right ! Not ergonomic, but much less frustating.

Will the forthcoming Vista SP1 sort this out ???
