Why does the formula show instead of the result?

Instead of the result of a formula showing up in the cell, the formula itself
is displayed.
 
Does this happen to all formulas or just one? The cell is likely
formatted as Text. Change the format to General and then select
the cell. Press F2 then Enter.

sounds like you either forgot the "=" in front of your formula or it is
formatted as text
