why does the envelope notification icon disappear?

why is it that when i recieve 4 emails at different time of the day my
envelope icon disappears after i only read one of them?? it should stay there
until all my emails are read. is there any way to do this?

No. The icon only stays for a designated length of time--30 seconds is the
max. Once you open one, it will disappear until you get another new email.
Desktop alert settings is under Email options, advanced email options.

thanx for your fast response mary...but im not talking about the blue
transparent alert that outlook has. im talking about the little envelope
icon that appears next to the outlook icon when new email arrives in my
inbox. it apears when new emails arrive but it disappears when i only open 1
out of 4 emails. Is there a way to keep that envelope icon as a reminder
that there are still unread emails (new emails to read)???
