Why does System restore fail?

I'm trying to go back to a restore point a few days ago. Everything
goes ok, but in the end, when I log in again, it says restore failed.
Any ideas why? It used to restore ok. The reason I'm going back is
suddenly my kid's AIM is broken, program aborts ans sends error
report.

Because the points are corrupt. Now I will be slated by all the Norton
SystemWorks fans but, IME, the Disk Cleanup (or whatever it's called these
days, I've not used Norton products for years) is one of the primary causes.
You will now need to turn off system restore (right click my computer >
properties > system restore tab > uncheck monitoring box) reboot and turn it
back on. This will purge all points but, as they are corrupt, they are
useless to you.

You will need to contact AOHELL about the issue with its product.
