why does outlook shortcut overwrite my other mail client?

I installed office 2007 beta and it overwrote existing shortcuts on desktop
and quick launch for other mail clients with the Outlook shortcut. Why would
this happen?
 
It only replaces shortcuts for previous versions of Outlook. If you set it
as the default mail client it will also respond to "mailto" shortcuts. What
were your exact shortcuts?
