Why does my mail icon not change to reflect forwarded/replied to?

I have Outlook Office Standard 2007. In past versions of Outlook that I have
used, the mail icon changes to reflect my having replied to or forwarded a
message. This version does not do that. I have no idea why. If anyone has
any ideas, I would love to hear them. Thanks.

Hotmail and MSN (HTTP), and gmail (POP/SMTP).

HTTP account types don't support that. You can however use the Outlook
Connector and then it will show the icon changes on reply and forwards.

The POP3 account should support it. If it doesn't you can try if recreating
the mail profile will solve your issue;
