Why does index.htm display instead of page banner text?

When uploaded my home page displays index.htm instead of the page banner
text. When previewed in browser everything looks OK. I can't find any
errors on the page, and the navigation structure is correct. What have I
done wrong?

I'm not sure what you're asking.
Index.htm is the "default" page that is automatically displayed when a link such as www.yoursite.com
is clicked.
If you want a banner to show it either needs to be contained in index.htm or the page containing it
needs to be named index.htm

What the default page should be called depends on the Server. Normally
that is not a problem as FP will automatically rename the local default
(home) page to what the Server requires. So in this case it seems you
have used some other means to upload the pages. Here you must rename the
page yourself on the Server.
If this is not the case, you should post an URL so we can look at it.
