Why does Frontpage not use the selected font?

I have selected a font, but in both preview mode (and live on the internet),
Frontpage uses a different font. When I go back and reassign the desired
font, it works ok, but for some reason it frequently doesn't 'save' the font
the first time I assign it.

You must assign a font to your text either via font tags or CSS.

Fonts were assigned in "Normal" view. Yet when I look at the html code, the
fonts are not recorded. I frequently have the same trouble with tables.
Essentially, what I do in Normal view is not reflected in the underlying
html. Is this a flaw in Frontpage or maybe a corruption in my copy? I can
reinstall if that will help. I have the same issues whether working on my
desktop or laptop.

AND the person must have the font on their computer
and their browser set to default
in IE go to view >make the text any size you want
in options>accessibility> anyone can turn them off

After assigning the fonts, etc. are you then saving the page before view html/code view?

Yes, I'm saving. I can see that the changes were properly made in the
'normal' mode, but the underlying html code doesn't record the change (which
is then reflected in 'preview' mode).

Perhaps related... sometimes it appears that my tables have been
automatically put into some type of a text box. Any idea what this is about?
And could it be related?

Sound like you using VML Graphics (Which are only truly supported in IE for Windows browsers).

If I am (using VML Graphics) I'm not aware of it. I've used only FrontPage
to develop and maintain this website.

This is probably a dumb question, but... I'm looking thru manuals and found
something on 'positioning boxes'. Could this be related somehow? Also,
style sheets... it seems that they can add an 'overlay' of formatting. Am I
running down a rabbit hole?

VML graphic are generated any time you use the drawing toolbar.
