why do word documents show up on excel and access file menu?

When I open the file menu for Excel or Access my Word documents are listed.
I'd like to have only Excel documents open in Excel and Access documents open
in Access. Any ideas?

Look at the box under the file name in the file finder box. You can
change it to filter the type of files you want.

Of course you could move all your files to different folders for each
file type.
