why do my words delete when i put a space and type?

When I move words together on a document and try to add a space and type
more, it deletes the letters following. PLEASE HELP!!

You're in Overtype mode (probably because you inadvertently pressed the
Insert key). Press the Insert key once or double-click OVR on the Word
status bar.

Press the Insert button (again, since that's how you got into the
state you're in) to switch from Overtype mode to Insert mode.
