Why do my emails disappear as soon as I open them?

As soon as I read my new emails in my Outlook inbox, I open them and then
read and then close and then they are gone from my inbox and I cannot find
them anywhere. Please help.
 
You appear to have set your View to "Unread messages."
Check and see if you did.
