why do multiple message keep downloading

Recently did clean install of XPpro. I configed OLE for my 2 email accounts.
Installed Office 2003 and imported data to Outlook. Now, everytime I log on
to Outlook and receive new messages, I not only get new messages, but all my
older messages are downloaded again. I choose to keep messages on the server
until I delete because my family also uses OLE (more comfortable with that
than reg OL) I've clean installed before and have not had this problem. Am
I missing some check box to keep this from happening?

My guess is that you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook and
doesn't properly terminate the connection. Disable this integration and try
again. This first time without the integration you'll possibly receive all
your items again since it still hasn't recorded a successful send/receive.

Robert, Thanks for your advice. I use CA security suite from RoadRunner. I
disabled the email scanner, reopened OL and again everything re-downloaded.
I quit and restarted 3 more times and the messages kept downloading. I've
moved to deleted items folder and cleaned that folder-thereby removing from
server, but some keep coming back. This is all very confusing!

Robert,
I accessed the How to-Outlook site you suggested & follwed dirs. I imported
the .pst file but still a mess. Using the idea of a new profile, I deleted
my old profile & pst files. Created new email accounts, ran Outlook to
create blank PST files, then replaced them with saved files from before the
clean install. Problem solved. That imported profile from OLE must have
been corrupted, as you suggested. That has never happened before. Goes to
show how important backups are!!!! Thanks for your help.
